Subject: possible purpose of format...
My guess is this was 50% of a 2-projector sfx where another sequence mixed onto the same screen. Interesting footage orherwise, frenzy vs ennui contrast. The context of the opening sequence, if any, is lost with the other reel.

Interesting reel.. I'd like to know more about it. We start with death scenes. Why? I am not too sure. Maybe some kind of metaphor to what's coming up? Anyways, scenes of 1945 Times Square is shown, D Day just happened, people are out on the street celebrating! Soldiers kissing women! (there was apparently a lot of this happening) and a lot of ticker tape. We then have have shots of 1969 New York, full of luried advertising on the walls and marquees promising this and that (I LOVED the naked guy in the window). This is all done with shots lasting no more than 5 seconds or so, then it going white. So it's a bit arty, and I would love to know who did this, because it's very interesting.
